You don’t need special skills — just a caring nature and a willingness to listen. We welcome volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of confidence. If you enjoy chatting, connecting with people, and offering gentle support, you’ll fit right in.
Most visits are simply a warm chat over a cup of tea. You might talk about hobbies, memories, or everyday life. Sometimes you’ll be a listening ear; sometimes you’ll share a laugh. Every visit is different, but all are appreciated.
Times have moved on since we first started, and so have we. Alongside home visits, we’re are hoping to set up befriending relationships where people keep in touch by phone or WhatsApp — whatever feels easiest and most comfortable.
You’ll start by completing a simple application form and having a short, friendly interview. If we mutually agree that this is something you would like to be part of, you’ll receive our Volunteer Handbook, which explains the practical parts of the role in a clear and supportive way.
Like all Good Neighbour schemes, we follow safeguarding and good‑practice guidelines. They’re not complicated, and we’ll go through them with you so you feel confident and prepared. All our volunteers are DBS checked.
